MO,8/1/2018, KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) announcement of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its Prime Ministerial nominee has only led to an adverse reaction among the opposition pact’s component members. Former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PBBM) founding member, Anina Saadudin said the announcement on Sunday by PH had only led to internal dissension and disunity with the pact’s four component parties and their members.
“Congratulations Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for being crowned as the interim Prime Minister for Pakatan Harapan “Will a world record be broken, when one of the oldest candidates is likely to led a country, which had not been done by any other opposition. “Better than this is, will Tun (Mahathir) be a PM after overthrowing a previous PM. “Is this a record which Malaysians want to be created ?” she asked in a statement today.
The Empirical Malaysia president also questioned on whether Dr Mahathir was the best candidate that opposition pact had to offer. Better than other leaders such as Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and even the Pakatan Harapan’s chairman’s son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir. “Condolences also to the opposition, as only a few hours later, the signs of disunity had emerged,” she said.
Anina adds the boycott of the convention by PAN Johor and Perak of the PH convention over disagreement on seat allocation only adds salt to the whole episode. “It looks like a decision which was hoped to provide a positive impact for the opposition to garner the rakyat’s support had been rejected out right by the grassroots themselves.
Anina said PPBM could also afford to put on a smile now for having the largest number of seats. However they need to remember that without the cooperation and understanding of other political parties in the pact, it is impossible for them to move on their own in the face of the upcoming general election, as their election machinery is not as strong as the others.
“Congratulations to Tun M for using the opposition to place Datuk Seri Mukhriz as the future Prime Minister and condolences to the opposition for being used,” she said.
