MO,2/2/2018, PETALING JAYA: Controversial blogger Ratu Naga is being investigated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police over a viral video of foreigners allegedly being given identity cards. MCMC said in a statement on Friday (Feb 2) that Ratu Naga, whose real name is Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, showed up at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters to have her statement taken.

She arrived at the police headquarters at 10am accompanied by two lawyers and was questioned for four hours. Her statement was recorded under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the Penal Code. MCMC said it released a notice for Syarul Ema to step forward and give her statement after efforts to trace her during a raid at her premises in Old Klang Road Thursday (Feb 1) failed.

The noticed was given to Syarul Ema’s husband. MCMC added that the case would be referred to the deputy public prosecutor after investigations are completed. “There is no compromise for those who spread fake news. “Their actions threaten the harmony and safety of the public. They will not be released without punishment under the law,” MCMC chief operating officer Datuk Dr Mazlan Ismail said.

On Thursday, Mazlan said the agency received complaints about the video and was investigating the case with the assistance of the police. The 2.38-minute video published on the “Ratu Naga” Facebook page first appeared a few years ago.
