BNSC: Government’s 20% cut of medicine budget due to generic drugs

MO,7/4/2018, PETALING JAYA: Datuk Eric See-To accused Pakatan Harapan of trying to mislead people on the cut in the Federal Government’s budget for medicines. The Barisan Nasional strategic communicatio ns (BNSC) deputy director said in a statement on Saturday (April 7) that the Opposition’s claim when promoting their Kad Peduli Sihat scheme missed the point.

“In promoting their Kad Peduli Sihat (scheme), Pakatan Harapan is trying to mislead when they claim that the Federal Government’s budget for medicine s upply has been cut from RM1.59bil in 2016 to RM1.292bil in 2017 and to RM1.227bil in 2018 – a 20% cut in three years,” he said.Under the Kad Peduli Sihat scheme, poorer Selangor folks are given an annual RM500 allocation for treatment at registered private clinics in the state.

See-To acknowledged that the 20% reduction in medicine expenditure was accurate, but  there was good reason for this.He said that the Ministry had moved to  generic drugs since 2015 to cut down on costs.Generic drugs are copies of brand-name drugs that have exactly the same dosage, use, effects, side effects and strength as the original drugs, he explained.

See-To, however, pointed out that the Health Ministry’s budget had increased – with an all ocation of RM26.58bil for healthcare in the 201 8 budget, a 9.5% increase over the previous year’s.See-To said said the use of generics also opened up opportunities for local manufacturers.”Currently, 30% of generic drugs are sourced from local manufacturers whereas almost all branded medicine are produced overseas,” he said.

“Since money has now been saved from drug supplies, the Government can then invest in better equipment, and build more clinics and hospitals to serve the people, which also provides places for medical graduates to perform their housemanship,” he said.

Ceremony secretariat, Azmi Rahmat said the organiser is working with the police to ensure the event would be carried out without any untoward incident.

“The traffic jam was caused by the supporters who came from all states to show their support. “Highest number of supporters came from Johor, Perak and Selangor,” he said.

health3.jpg_1523109990

MO,7/4/2018, KUALA LUMPUR: Tax relief, water laws, a vast expansion of healthcare services and promotion of greener lifestyle are among the key policies to be implemented by Barisan Nasional (BN) if it wins the upcoming national polls. The highlights in efforts to implement a greener lifestyle include all-around access to clean water supply, through the introduction of water laws under the National Integrated Centralised Management System.

Also key in realising endeavours for a greener environment would be the distribution of Euro5 diesel nationwide over the next five years, reduction of carbon emissions, generating energy through renewable sources and a more efficient garbage disposal and solid waste disposal service, especially in rural areas.

The coalition also plans to preserve the balance between socio-economic development, conservation and environmental protection through the Access to Biological Resources and Benefit Sharing Act 2017. Healthwise, development and upgrading services in rural areas would be done by increasing number of specialist physicians, hospitals, free family doctor team services and 1Malaysia Clinics, that have been successful in providing affordable healthcare.

BN also plans to raise nutrition level for children aged between 6 months and 6-years in hardcore poor families, apart from developing new programmes to address mental health issues. On the needs of groups particularly arts and heritage organisations, an allocation of RM3 million for the Art Practitioners Welfare Fund would be made every five years and RM5 million grant to activists of heritage bodies.

An individual tax incentive of RM1,000 a year would also be given to those who contribute to the development of national cultural arts. Concerns over flood-prone areas would see improvement in flood preparedness plans via implementation of 69 Flood Mitigation Masterplan projects nationwide, with a total cost of RM8.57 billion, that will benefit 1.5 million people. BN will also continue to provide monthly electric bill subsidies to more than one million consumers.
