Najib: Bigger mandate will ensure greater progress

MO,14/3/2018, KANGAR: Barisan Nasional must up its game to ensure it wins with a bigger majority in the general election, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. With a bigger mandate, he is confident the country will achieve greater progress, the fruits of which will be enjoyed by the people. “We can win but we want a strong government. “We cannot take anything for granted and that is why we must work doubly hard.

“With Barisan’s clear-cut policies, capability and ability to deliver, we can ensure victory (for the coalition in GE14),” he said when launching the Perlis Barisan 2018 machinery here yesterday. The Prime Minister was on a one-day visit to Perlis. He was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor. They were welcomed by Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

Also present were Perlis MCA chairman Datuk Chua Tee Yong and Perlis MIC chairman S. Vengadasamy. At a separate function in Arau, Najib said the country’s debt will surge to RM416bil if the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and road toll collection are abolished as promised by Pakatan Harapan in their general election manifesto. He said the abolition of the GST and toll collection would make the country incur a debt of RM383bil in addition to other debts.

The country, he said, would not be able to implement up to half of the national development programmes with the loss of the huge revenue. “Going by its manifesto, our country will incur more debt. You (young people) will have to bear it. We cannot cheat the people; don’t cheat the people. We do what we can. If we cannot do something, we have to admit that we cannot do it.

“But believe me, we (Barisan Nasional) always have the people under consideration because they come first in our policies,” he said at the programme “Budget 2018 with the People: Youths and Students” at Universiti Malaysia Perlis. Najib also said the country’s economy will not grow if infra-rakyat (infrastructure for the people) was not well implemented. “When the economy continues to do well, the Government will be able to implement not just the infra-rakyat, but also provide employment for the people and various subsidies for the needy.

“If the economy does not grow, we cannot provide employment opportunities to the thousands of our children graduating from public universities, such as Universiti Malaysia Perlis. “How can we also provide subsidies in education and health sectors and meet the expenditure for all public servants?” he said at the official opening of the Perlis Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).

The Perlis UTC in Kampung Sena has been in operation since Oct 23 last year, and has provided residents in Perlis and Kedah services offered by various government and private sector agencies. Speaking at the opening of the 19th UTC in the country built at a cost of RM35.5mil, Najib said the UTCs reflected a revolutionary concept of offering government services designed for the well-being of the people. “We must ensure all regions and states, from Perlis to Sabah, benefit from the positive effect of development and programmes that we implement,” he said.

BN to unveil manifesto on April 7

MO,14/3/2018, KUALA LUMPUR: BARISAN Nasional is expected to reveal its manifesto on a grand scale at Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil on April 7. The unveiling will likely see the 14th General Election (GE14) being held late next month or early May. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is BN chairman, is expected to launch the manifesto in front of coalition supporters.

All 13 senior leaders from BN’s component parties, including those in Sabah and Sarawak, are expected to attend. For GE13, Najib unveiled BN’s manifesto at Stadium Putra on April 6, 2013 — 28 days before the polls. For GE12, BN’s manifesto was unveiled by then prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the Putra World Trade Centre on Feb 28, 2008 — 11 days before the polls. Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the BN manifesto would be revealed next month, but declined to give further details.

However, he hinted that the manifesto would have better promises and offerings compared with what others had laid on the table. “All I can say is, just wait… (the wait) is not going to be too long. “The (BN) manifesto will be far better,” he said. Prior to this, Najib had said that BN’s manifesto for GE14 would be the best for the coalition to continue its people-centric agenda for the next five years.

He had reportedly said that BN had fulfilled 97.6 per cent of the 17 promises in its GE13 manifesto. It is learnt that among offerings the people can look forward to in the upcoming manifesto is one specifically for youth.

Too late for Tun M to change history – Salleh

MO,14/3/2018, KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said it is now too late for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to change history on what had been revealed in court 20 years ago. Describing the former prime minister’s latest confession as most puzzling and contradicting, Salleh said Dr Mahathir was badly mistaken if he thought he can change history as everything that happened since 1997 was well documented mainly because of the Internet.

Salleh said the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman had 20 years to set the record straight if what had been reported was wrong. “First of all, when it was revealed that (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim had a ‘black eye’, Dr Mahathir said most likely Anwar punched his own face. “When it was finally revealed that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) had punched Anwar, Dr Mahathir did not offer any apology or retract his allegation that Anwar had punched his own face,” he said in his blog,, last night.

Salleh said former IGP Tun Hanif Omar then revealed that Dr Mahathir had sent him to meet Anwar to advise Anwar that the police were aware of his sexual misconduct and other activities and that he should stop before it became public knowledge. “Anwar never denied this meeting but said the meeting was about Hanif’s chairmanship of Genting and not about his sexual activities.

“This means Dr Mahathir knew about Anwar’s activities long before August 1998 and he had sent Hanif to meet Anwar to discuss the matter,” he added. In the meantime, Salleh also launched a scathing attack on Pakatan Harapan for claiming that the 14th General Election (GE) would be the dirtiest election in Malaysia’s history.

Salleh said it sounded like PH knew that they are going to lose so that is why they are lining up such an excuse to explain why they lost. “They did this in GE13 and it was later proven that all the allegations of Bangladeshi voters and power failures were false,” he said.

RM400 Million to conduct GE14 – EC

MO,14/3/2018, PUTRAJAYA: An estimated RM400 million is needed to conduct the 14th General Election (GE14), according to the Election Commission. Its chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the expenditure included rental costs, procurement of equipment, payment of allowances and honorarium. “All nomination centres, polling centres and counting centres have been identified and ready to operate,” he told Bernama, adding 250,000 temporary workers were needed to ensure smooth running of GE14.

He said transport requirements including helicopters had also been identified, with all logistics preparations in good order. The EC expects 100,000 representatives or agents of contesting parties to act as observers throughout GE14. Mohd Hashim said the number did not include observers outside the polling centres. In short, he said, the observers would be aware of everything that is going on inside and outside the polling centres.

“The EC will emphasise to the candidates that they must have their representatives or agents around throughout the election process. “We will read out the names of these observers to assure the public of transparency and fairness; therefore political parties should not worry about transparency of the electoral process which the country had always practised,” he said. Aside from that, he said the EC was also waiting for response from international observers including from Commonwealth and ASEAN countries that had been invited for the GE14.

He added that the EC had also appointed local observers from non partisan non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and university representatives. On his own preparation in leading the EC for the first time in a General Election, Mohd Hashim admitted it was a challenge to prove his capability. “Personally, I am dealing with various emotions; but I am optimistic that I can do what is best as I am also assisted by the EC workforce, secretariat officials and committed and experienced officers,” he said.

Describing the prior seven by-elections and the 11th Sarawak State Election as “a training ground”, he said he would apply such valuable experience in GE14.

Mah: More than half of Gerakan’s GE14 candidates will be new faces

MahSiewKeong 130318

MO,13/3/2018, SEREMBAN: More than half of Gerakan’s candidates in the coming polls will be new faces, says Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong. “We have forwarded our recommendations to the Barisan Nasional leadership and a final decision should be made soon,” said the Gerakan president. He added that the party would not field the same candidate in both state and parliament seats.

“Fielding the same candidate in both parliament and state seats has its merits and Barisan has done this before. “But since we have only 45 seats, we will not be doing so,” he said during a visit to the state Gerakan office Tuesday. On Monday (March 11), The Star front-paged a report that an unprecedented number of Barisan leaders could be contesting both state and parliamentary seats.

Talk is rife that the ruling coalition may do so as a strategy to win more seats in what is seen as the most hotly-contested polls ever. Among those tipped to be contesting two seats include Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

On Gerakan’s preparation’s in Negri Sembilan, Mah said he was glad to note that the party continued serving the people although it failed to win the Senawang and Bukit Kepayang state seats in the 2013 polls. “We have been working hard although we were unable to win any of the two seats. “I also believe that Barisan will do better in Negri Sembilan this time around as the state government has been doing a lot for the rakyat, including bringing in a lot of investments as well as development to the state,” he said.

Kaji selidik Invoke Malaysia: Sendiri buat kajian, sendiri ramal menang

– theRakyat

MIC candidates list handed to PM

MO,12/3/2018, KUALA LUMPUR: The MIC candidates list has been submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, party president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said. He said the candidates were selected mainly based on feedback received from ground surveys, and comprised of a mix of young and experienced people.

“We need to consider candidates from various levels, and that is the reason we started preparing for this election much earlier than we did before. “Ground survey is one of the best ways to identify the most suitable candidates, especially for different areas. I have already submitted the candidates list to the prime minister,” he said. Subramaniam said the party had carefully selected candidates based on certain criteria, in hopes to have a better winning chance.

“We try our best to have that mix, so eventually we have a group of young people, experienced people, those who won their seats before, some who are holding posts in the party and others who are popular in certain locations. It’s a combination of multiple things.

“However, ultimately we need full support from our component parties. So if everybody works together in the Barisan Nasional spirit, we will be able to do better than before,” he said this at the launching of the Socio-economic Development of Indian Community Unit (SEDIC) preschool programme 2018 at Sri Subramaniar temple in Subang Jaya today.

The government through its Malaysian Indian Blueprint (MIB) and SEDIC initiative had been managing and monitored preschools in Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) since 2014. Also present was SEDIC director-general Professor Datuk Dr Rajendran Nagappan. This year alone, 7,000 preschool children had benefitted from the SEDIC programme through 211 preschools nationwide. SEDIC helps support teachers’ allowance, reading material, teaching and learning material as well as student insurance.

Gagasan Sejahtera to launch manifesto on March 18

tuan man

MO,12/3/2018, KUALA LUMPUR: Gagasan Sejahtera is set to launch its manifesto – dubbed “Malaysia Sejahtera” – on March 18, says PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (pic). According to him, the manifesto for the coming 14th General Election will be launched during a ceramah at the Astana Banquet Hall in Cyberjaya, where party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and several other leaders in the PAS-led coalition will speak.

“There will be nine main thrusts in Gagasan’s manifesto,” he said to reporters during a press conference at its headquarters here on Monday. Tuan Ibrahim said the manifesto would address several national issues, among them the rising cost of living, national security and national unity.   “We need to build a Malaysia that is harmonious and accepted by all – regardless of race and religion.   “We hope our manifesto will be able to attract the support of non-Muslims,” he said, adding that it was drafted after taking into account the views of non-Muslims.

Tuan Ibrahim also announced Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa) as the latest addition into the Gagasan coalition. “This means that we have three component parties – PAS, Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia and Berjasa.  “Our coalition also comprises 200 NGOs and several other scholars,” he added.

Tuan Ibrahim also said that Gagasan had formed an electoral pact with Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM).”PCM isn’t a member of Gagasan, but they are friendly with us,” he said.  Last year, PCM president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan had expressed interest in joining forces with Gagasan.

Below are the nine main thrusts of Malaysia Sejahtera:

* The formation of a government with integrity, trustworthiness and free from corruption.

* To increase disposable income and provide new opportunities for the rakyat.

* Empowering Malaysians to ease the impact of inflation and the rising cost of living.

* Reducing the gap of income and wealth distribution between urban and rural areas.

* Improving the quality of education to create better human capital.

* The harmonisation of the legal system and governance.

* Strengthening the concept of federalism by restoring certain rights of a state government.

* Empowering the people’s voice, which is in line with the demands of Syura and democratic principles.

* Enhancing the effectiveness of current social support system for vulnerable groups.

Penyokong PAS Wajib Ajar Azmin Ali Di Selangor!

Kalau penyokong-penyokong PAS boikot, Azmin Ali pasti bungkus.
