Johor Royal Court: Don’t fall prey to those offering titles and awards

Johorroyalcourt

MO,15/2/2018, JOHOR BARU: Members of the public are advised not to fall prey to “deals” by irresponsible parties purporting to offer the Johor emblems, titles and awards on social media platforms. Johor Royal Court Council president Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli  said these include the Pingat Ibrahim Sultan Second Class (PIS II), and the coronation medal of Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

He said the Royal Court viewed this misdemeanour seriously, adding that the badges of honour and dignity were conferred by Sultan Ibrahim to those who have exhibited talents, virtues, loyalty and services.   “The awards are not to be commercialised for profit or gain,’’ Abdul Rahim said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 15).

He said the Johor state government had on March 13, 2017, passed the Johor Emblems, Titles and Awards (Prevention of Improper Use) Enactment 2017.   Article 3 of the Enactment states any person who uses any emblem, title or award conferred by the Ruler for the purpose of trade, business or any social and personal purpose, without the written approval of the Ruler, has committed an offence.

Abdul Rahim said the person is liable to a fine of between RM100,000 and RM250,000, or jailed between one year and three years, or both.   “The irresponsible parties are to cease immediately their plans, or face legal consequences,’’ he said.

Johor plans to ease traffic at CIQ

CIQ-JB

MO,5/2/2018, JOHOR BARU: Creating more lanes and opening up those allocated for heavy vehicles to cars – these are Johor’s plans to ease traffic at the highly-congested Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex. The state wants to introduce flexible traffic flow in the area since it is undoubtedly Malaysia’s busiest entry and exit point. Johor Public Works, Rural and Regional Development Committee chairman Datuk Hasni Mohamed said this must be addressed with good planning.

Among the suggestions, he said, was creating more lanes for vehicles to enter the complex to ease traffic congestion in the city area, especially during peak hours on weekends. An average of 154,000 vehicles use the CIQ daily while the number doubles during weekends or public holidays. Now, the Immigration Department has 77 counters for cars (39 for entry and 38 for exit), 100 counters for motorcycles (50 entry and 50 exit), 11 lorry counters (six for entry and five for exit). The state government, Hasni said, also wanted to open up the heavier vehicle lanes to smaller vehicles in the weekends to ease congestion.

“The Federal Government’s decision to reduce levy rates from RM200 to RM50 at the Second Link near Gelang Patah for commercial and heavy vehicles means there will more such vehicles at the Second Link. “This also means there will be a massive reduction for such mode of transport at the CIQ,” he told reporters after an official visit to the CIQ together with Johor Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong.

Hasni pointed out that the state government would further discuss the matter before forwarding its views to several ministries. “About 65% of tourist arrivals in the country go through the CIQ Complex,” he said. “There must be a smoother traffic flow between Malaysia and Singapore. “JKR (Public Works Department), together with the Highway Planning Unit and the Malaysian Highway Authority are looking at the traffic flow at the CIQ,” he said.

Hasni noted that there were 22 agencies involved at the CIQ alone and that only one agency – the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore – involved at the Woodlands Checkpoint. “That is a big challenge for us and I hope that with the understanding between Malaysia and Singapore, it will inspire greater cooperation among the 22 agencies to help us come up with faster travel time between both sides,” he said.

No increase in mandarin orange prices in Johor this CNY

LIMAU

MO,29/1/2018, JOHOR BARU: Johor consumers can rest easy with the knowledge that the price of average-sized mandarin oranges will not increase this Chinese New Year. This was the assurance given by state Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism Executive Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong, who said suppliers of the fruit have also guaranteed that there will be sufficient supply of the fruit for the festive season.

“Only the price of the bigger sized mandarin oranges will rise this year, by about 10 per cent. This is because they take longer to grow and are therefore costlier. “Some of the suppliers have also said that they have increased the import of the fruit due to the rise in demand. We will continue to conduct checks to ensure that the price does not change too much,” said Tee. He said the demand for the mandarin oranges has increased because of the improvement in the purchasing power of the people of Johor.

“This is also proof that the Johor economy is growing. Moreover, there are many visitors who come to the state,” said Tee. He was speaking to the media after conducting a check at the warehouse of fruit wholesaler MTS Import & Export Sdn Bhd in Skudai here. Also present were Johor Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Cooperative Ministry director Khairul Anwar Bachok and MTS general manager Tee Tiang Teng. Khairul Anwar, meanwhile, said he had checked with the Health Department to confirm that all the mandarin oranges imported from China are safe for consumption.

“The Health Department have conducted their own checks and have found no harmful chemicals in the fruits,” said Khairul Anwar. He was commenting on viral reports on social media that claimed some mandarin oranges were found to contain harmful chemicals. MTS’s Tee said the company plans to increase the import of the mandarin oranges by five containers. “Last year, we imported 30 containers of the fruit. This year, we plan to import 35 containers,” said Tee.

Siapa calon Menteri Besar PH Johor?
