Najib: Two possible scenarios if Dr M returns as PM

MO,23/2/2018, PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan’s choice of Tun Dr Mahathir as prime ministerial candidate and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah as his deputy will result in two possible scenarios, says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak . “The Opposition’s choice of candidates shows how fragile its leadership is if left to rule the country because its prime minister candidate is only temporary,” the Prime Minister wrote on his blog on Friday (Feb 23).

Najib said in the first scenario, the former prime minister would break his promise to hand the coveted position to Pakatan de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim once the latter is released from jail. Najib said this scenario is possible as in 2016, Dr Mahathir said he would never allow a man with poor morals to lead the country and had once said Anwar was too old to lead the country.

If Dr Mahathir breaks his promise, Najib foresees that PKR would revolt against Dr Mahathir to take power. In the likelihood that Dr Mahathir honours his promise, Najib said the second scenario would lead to the most critical case of nepotism in Malaysia. He said this is because the country’s prime minister and deputy prime minister would be helmed by a husband and wife team – Anwar and Dr Wan Azizah.Najib said this would likely lead to the rakyat rebelling against the leadership structure. “We can predict that if the Opposition wins the upcoming election, it will be busy fighting over the prime minister’s post for two to three years before it can begin work to serve the people,” Najib added.

Najib: Malaysia not going bankrupt

MO,22/2/2018, KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has reiterated that Malaysia would not go bankrupt as it had managed to reduce its debt to 50.4% against the self-imposed ceiling of 55% and had garnered higher foreign reserves, while works on infrastructure projects are in full swing.

The Prime Minister said the government had made bold decisions such as implementing the Economic Transformation Programme to boost the economy, creating 2.26 million jobs and raising income to between 5.0% and 6.0% per year.  “We have a self-imposed limit of 55% of GDP (gross domestic product), we have reduced it to 50.4%.

“During the Asian Financial Crisis, our reserves were down to US$20bil, we didn’t go bankrupt then. Now, our reserves are about US$124bil. Can you say we’re bankrupt?” he said at the Budget 2018 with the Rakyat programme here on Thursday.

Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, said Malaysia’s economic growth of 5.9% in 2017 was among the highest in the world, while its inflation and unemployment rates were low.

“That is the big picture. Our achievements have received very good reviews from international organisations such as the World Trade Organisation who commended Malaysia as our economy is moving in the right direction and our policies are showing positive results, including some measures that we have taken,” he said. – Bernama

Namun selepas subsidi, pelajar hanya perlu membayar yuran RM9,000 sahaja sepanjang tempoh pengajian.

“Ini satu lagi contoh bagaimana subsidi pendidikan disalurkan,” katanya.

Bagi sektor perumahan, Najib berkata kerajaan menyediakan subsidi dalam bentuk bantuan deposit iaitu Skim MyDeposit dan subsidi rumah kos rendah seperti Program Perumahan Rakyat, Rumah Generasi Kedua Felda, Rumah Bina Negara Pihak Berkuasa Kemajuan Pekebun Kecil Perusahaan Getah (RISDA) dan banyak lagi.- BERNAMA
